Jimmy "JIM" Douglas McCaleb, longtime Cookeville resident, passed away at the age of 86 on June 19, 2023, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Born on April 9, 1937, Jim lived a life defined by his faith, love for his family, and unwavering commitment to his community.


Jim is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Auerila "Tootsie" Freeman McCaleb; his three sons, Mike McCaleb and wife Mim of New Zealand, Jeff McCaleb of Cookeville, and Jason McCaleb and wife Deonna of Oklahoma; brother Bobby McCaleb and wife Jewell of Cookeville; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pierce Eugene McCaleb and Anna Viola West McCaleb; two sisters, Marcella McCaleb and Mary Francis Davis; and two brothers, Harley "Spud" McCaleb and Jerry McCaleb.


Jim proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, instilling in him a strong sense of duty and honor that would carry through his entire life. Following his military service, he returned to Cookeville, where he owned and operated Shamrock Furniture and Thompson Manufacturing. Jim's work ethic and service to his community were evident throughout his life, as he also worked as a rehabilitation advisor at Plateau Mental Health and later as a program counselor at Upper Cumberland Development District (UCDD) for over 20 years. Additionally, he was a longtime associate at the Dyer Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home, serving families in their time of need with care and compassion.


A man of deep faith, Jim was a devoted member of Colonial View Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. His love for music led him to play the piano and sing at several local churches, bringing joy and comfort to congregations throughout the community. Jim's commitment to community service extended beyond his church, as he was a former member of the Cookeville Junior Optimist Club and served as a Trustee for West Cemetery.


Jim's friendly nature and faith-filled spirit made him a beloved figure in the Cookeville community. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished time spent with his family, creating lasting memories and a legacy of love that will endure for generations to come.


Funeral services honoring Jim will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday June 24 at Colonial View Baptist Church. Chuck Overton and Ken Haney will officiate. Interment will follow at West Cemetery. Jim's family will receive friends Saturday from 1 p.m. until service time at the church.
