BAXTER CHAPEL-Jimmy Ray Roberts, Sr., born December 25, 1956, in Carthage, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his home in Silver Point, Tennessee, on Thursday, August 20, 2026. He was 69 years old.
Jimmy's life was marked by dedication, hard work, and a deep love for his family and his community. The son of the late Herbert Franklin Roberts and Reba Faye Sullins Roberts, he was raised with strong values that defined his character throughout his life. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Ronnie Franklin Roberts, whose memory Jimmy cherished always.
A proud graduate of Upperman High School in the class of 1974, Jimmy was known for his spirited involvement in school athletics, playing both football and baseball. He further enriched his high school years by participating in the Trades Program and FFA, cultivating skills and friendships that remained meaningful to him.
Jimmy began his working career in the zinc mines where he worked from 1975 until April 2023. Following the mines closure, he began working for LoJac, continuing there until the company was acquired by Vulcan Materials in January 2017. He continued his career with Vulcan until his retirement in June 2024.
Above all else, Jimmy loved the Lord, his faith was an important part of who he was. He leaves behind a legacy rooted in faith, family, and hard work and love. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is now at peace and home with his Lord and Savior. Until we meet again, Dad, Grandpa, and Beloved Husband, we love you, and we will carry you with us always.
Deeply rooted in the land and community he loved, Jimmy found true joy in farming and spent countless hours working outdoors. He also enjoyed motorcycle building and riding, savoring the sense of freedom the open road provided. Known for being a hard worker, Jimmy possessed a remarkable work ethic that inspired those around him and was evident in every task he undertook.
Jimmy’s legacy is most profoundly reflected in the family he cherished. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Judd Roberts (married January 8, 1977); his devoted son, Jimmy Ray Jr., and daughter-in-law, Rachel; his loving daughter, Heather Renae Roberts; his brother, Danny Roberts, and sister-in-law, Pam; as well as his treasured grandchildren, Ryan Roberts and Logan Roberts. Each family member holds dear the memories and values Jimmy instilled in them.
He will be remembered for his steadfast presence, his kindness, and the warmth he extended to all who knew him. While his loss is felt deeply, his life leaves an enduring mark on those who had the privilege of knowing him.
A graveside service and interment to honor Jimmy's memory will be held at Smellage Memory Gardens, 10825 Hopewell Road, Silver Point, TN 38582, on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Jimmy are invited to attend and pay their respects.
