Jimmy Wayne Brown

BAXTER CHAPEL - Jimmy Wayne Brown, a lifelong resident of the Baxter area, passed away on Sunday October 5th, 2025 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Jim and his wife, Nellie, owned and operated the Wagon Wheel restaurant in Baxter for many years, a local institution where they served the community and made countless friends. He loved his community and had an enthusiasm for local sports. Jim could often be found in the stands, cheering on the Baxter Bees at basketball and football games.

A man who lived life to the fullest, Jim loved a friendly challenge and the thrill of the game. He greatly enjoyed playing poker and spending time with his family. His friendships were a cornerstone of his life; he treasured all of his friends, but he held a special bond with Roy "Pork" Lane of Alabama, whom he loved like a brother.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Brown; his parents, Ruby Wheeler Brown and DC Brown; his sister and brother-in-law, Carole "Sis" and Richard McBroom; and his brothers, Rick Brown and David "Brownie" Brown.

Jim is survived by his brother, Robert "Tank" Brown and his wife Tina of Baxter; his daughter, Connie Lee and her husband Terry of Cookeville; step-son, Paul Pippin; and his cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, numerous cousins, and a large circle of friends who will miss him dearly.

Funeral services for Mr. Brown will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday October 8 from the Baxter Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Bro. Fabron Nicholson and Bro. Houston Jared will officiate.

Interment will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the Baxter Chapel on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.

Special thanks to Jim's friends and family for their financial blessing for Jimmy's funeral expenses.
