BAXTER CHAPEL-Jo Ann Martin, a beloved member of the Baxter community, passed away peacefully at her home in Baxter, Tennessee, on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on Wednesday, April 10, 1946, in Cookeville, Tennessee, Jo Ann was known for her warmth, generosity, and unwavering support for her family and friends.
Jo Ann dedicated 36 years of her professional life to Vallie's Beauty Shop in Baxter, where she not only honed her craft but also forged lasting relationships with her clients. A proud 1964 graduate of Upperman High School in Baxter, she carried the values of hard work and kindness throughout her life.
In her personal life, she found great joy in helping others and cherishing moments spent with her loved ones. Jo Ann was a member of the Silver Point Church of Christ, where her contributions were felt profoundly as she actively participated in various community efforts.
Her family remembers Jo Ann as a loving wife to her husband, John Martin, with whom she shared 61 wonderful years. She is survived by her son, Johnny (Missy) Martin of Baxter; sister, Linda Jones of Silver Point; and her cherished grandchildren, MacKenzie (Brad) Mitchell and Lexie (Connor) Smith, both of Baxter. Jo Ann also delighted in the role of great-grandmother to Millie Mitchell and Myer Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph "Joe" Byrd Anderson and Neioda Chelsie Carter Anderson.
Visitation will be held at Baxter Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home, 532 4th Ave. South, Baxter, TN 38544, on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again on Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. A funeral service will be at 1:00 PM with Bro. Luke Wilken officiating. Interment will follow the service in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Serving the family as pallbearers will be Brad Mitchell, Connor Smith, Jeremiah Jones, Eric Cherry, Carter Cherry, Hayden Floyd.
Jo Ann Martin will be deeply missed by all who knew her, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and a commitment to helping others that will inspire generations to come.
