BAXTER CHAPEL-Joe Lee Herren was born June 30, 1954 in Cookeville, TN, he passed away Monday, July 6, 2026 at TriStar Centennial Hospital in Nashville at the age of 72.

He graduated from Norris High School in 1972. At age 14 he started working at Anderson County Boat Dock and began a lifetime of enjoying the water and outdoors.

He was a man of many activities enjoying boating, horses, traveling, volleyball, motorcycles, working in his yard, fishing and spending time with family and friends.

After graduation in 1972 he began working with his grandfather, Charlie Herren in the lumber business and went to school in Memphis to become a certified in lumber inspection.

Joe worked 52 years as a Lumber Inspector including 32 years at Norwalk of Cookeville finishing up with Scott Brothers of Sparta, TN.

His faith was important to him and sustained him, he worshipped with the congregation at Baxter Church of Christ. He taught and showed his family the importance of a relationship with Jesus Christ and set an example.

Survivors include wife Sandra "Sandy" Lafever Herren of Silver Point, father Herman Herren of Norris, TN, daughter Crystal Dawn (Jeremy) Walker of Silver Point, sons Joey Lynn (Jennifer) Herren, Jason (Jeanette) Shanks, Jerry (Jessica) Shanks all of Silver Point, sister Debbie (Doug) Couch of White Bluff, TN, brother Mike Herren of Norris, TN, sisters-in-law Sheila Herren of Clinton, TN, Rhonda (Pat) Lollar of Baxter, father-in-law Pat Lafever of Silver Point, brother-in-law Donny Lafever of Silver Point, grandchildren: Harley Walker, Kylie Herren, Holden (Abbi) Walker, Emma Shanks (Mikel) Westmoreland, Kadie Jo (Jesse) Thomas, Jase Shanks, Lily Shanks, Jett Shanks, Jerra Shanks, Kendal Herren, Alyssa Brockway, Haley Heap, Madi Heap, Hannah Mitchell, Trace Mitchell, Liberty (Kobe) Jones and a great grandchild on the way Dallas Thomas.

Joel was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy "Dot" Shores Herren, mother-in-law Jewell Sadler Lafever, grandparents: Charlie and Sallie Fisher Herren, Udell and Etmo Dean Maxwell Shores.

His wishes of cremation and no services is being honored.
