Funeral Services for Billy Joe Maxwell, 81 of Cookeville, Tn. will be Tuesday, July 17 at 11 A.M. from the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home with interment in Algood City Cemetery. Mr. Maxwell died Saturday , July 14, 2012 at NHC Healthcare of Cookeville. He was born September 4, 1930 in Putnam County to the late W.C. "BILL"� and Ida Vestel Cole Maxwell. Joe was the owner of Upper Cumberland Decorating Center in Cookeville for 38 years. He and his wife, Libby: son Rick and wife, Linda: Rick"�s son-in-law, David Stone; Daniel Hawkins; and Jon Conohan greeted their many customers with the greatest appreciation and regarded numerous ones as treasured friends. Joe was quietly but actively involved in many activities that were of great importance to him. He labored for those he felt were deserving or were in need. In his lifetime he received various accommodations one of which was President of the Cookeville Civitan Club, the Algood Jaycees, and had served on the Algood City Council. He was a regular attendee at Trinity Assembly of God. In addition his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers Lonnie, Hollis, Harold"�POOD"� and John; three sisters Merle Burdette, Helen Hamblen and Gladys Ford. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth "LIBBY"� Holloway Maxwell, Son Rick Maxwell and wife Linda of Cookeville, Grandson, Sean Maxwell and wife Kendall; three granddaughters, Dr. Lori Maxwell, Mrs. Melissa Stone and husband David all of Cookeville and Chelsey Maxwell of Abingdon, VA. He was blessed with six great-grandchildren; Brenna and Evan Edgemon, Pete and Lucy Stone and Bo and Kennedy Maxwell, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Pastor Jim Moore will officiate. Family will receive friends Monday from 5 to 8 P.M. and after 9 A.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Active Pallbearers will be David Rich, Jeff Rich, Jimmy Maxwell, Mike Maxwell, Matt Allen and Daniel Hawkins. Honorary Pallbearers will be Don Chinoy, Bill Adams, Ben Goolsby, Freddie Nelson, Jim Brown and Curtis Shinsky. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Assembly of God Media Ministry 205 Wall Street, Algood, TN 38506.
