DYER CHAPEL - John Leroy Kegarise, age 91, passed away peacefully at his home in Algood, Tennessee, on Saturday June 20, 2026. Born on May 31, 1935, in New Castle, Pennsylvania, John led a life marked by integrity, service, and deep commitment to both family and community.

John’s formative years in New Castle laid the groundwork for a lifetime of dedication to country and loved ones. His steadfast character carried him to significant achievements throughout his life, most notably in his military and professional service. John proudly served as a CT2 (East) in the United States Navy, where he earned the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Medal. His career continued in intelligence work with the CIA in Africa, a testament to his courage and patriotism. Following his government service, John worked with GTE in Wisconsin, building a career that was as diverse as it was impactful.

A man of faith and fellowship, John was a member of Algood United Methodist Church. He valued the camaraderie of the American Legion, finding purpose in both worship and community support.

John’s life was richly blessed by family and friends. He is survived by his loving companion and devoted caregiver, Trisha Franklin, whose unwavering support brought comfort and joy in his later years. He leaves behind his dear children: daughter Sue Yielding and her husband Scott, son John Bradley Kegarise and his wife Jena, and daughter Jackie Huber with her husband Mike. His legacy lives on through his treasured grandchildren: Britta and TJ Kegarise; Nick and Patrick Yielding; and Ava, Hannah, and Theo Huber. John is also survived by his nephews, Chuck and Rick Hillisheim, and by close friends Bill and Jenna Greer, and Don and Debby Ward. Their enduring relationships brought warmth and meaning to his journey.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Shover Kegarise, whose loving example helped shape his steadfast character and compassionate heart.

A Funeral Service will be held at 12 PM on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 from the Dyer Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Flood officiating.

Interment with Military Honors will follow at Boiling Springs Cemetery with Nick Yielding, Patrick Yielding, Scott Yielding, Brad Kegarise, Tim Ford and David Norris serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.

As we remember John Kegarise, we honor a life well lived-marked by selfless service, abiding faith, and the bonds of family and friendship. His memory will be cherished by all who were privileged to know and love him.
