COOKEVILLE CHAPEL-Funeral services for John McClennon, age 61 will be held Friday, February 7, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Bro. Andy Brewster will officiate. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.
His family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
John passed away on February 2, 2025. John lived a life brimming with passion and kindness, leaving an indelible mark on those who knew him.
John's football career is notably highlighted by his participation in the inaugural Arena Bowl in 1985 with the Pittsburgh Gladiators. His journey in sports began with his education, as he was a proud graduate of Cookeville High School in 1981. He furthered his education at the University of Tennessee, where he played football under the mentorship of Coach Johnny Majors.
Beyond athletics, John was a talented musician, a self-taught pianist and guitar player who found immense joy in performing. His artistic flair was complemented by his charismatic personality; he was known for his kindness, big smile, and gentle demeanor. Always a dreamer, John inspired those around him with his positivity and warmth.
John was a certified personal trainer and an avid runner. He completed two marathons and spent 13 enjoyable years running along the beach while living in Southern California, a testament to his love for the outdoors and an active lifestyle.
John is survived by his loving parents, Freddie L. and Dorothy Carr McClennon, and his sister, Jennifer McClennon, all residing in Cookeville. He is also survived by his brother, Freddie McClennon Jr., and wife Melinda, of Olive Branch, Mississippi; his niece and nephew, Brittney (Joe) Reagan and Andrew McClennon; aunts Elsie Watkins and Lillian (Leonard) West; uncle Charles (Mae) Carr; devoted cousins, Hugh (Kelley) Smith and Linda Carr; along with a host of other cousins.
He was preceded in death by his special uncle, David McClennon, and his beloved grandparents, Haskell B. and Della Mae Carr and Ernestine McClennon.
John McClennon's life was a tapestry of talents, love, and cherished relationships. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
