Mrs. Johnnie Pearl Matheney passed away peacefully on February 12, 2024, in her hometown of Cookeville, TN. Born on February 16, 1938, to the late John D. Mackie and Mattie Lou Roberson, Johnnie's life was a testament to love, family, and faith.
Johnnie's journey alongside her beloved husband, Rev. Billy Ray Matheney, was one of partnership and devotion. Married for 47 years until his passing in 2004, they shared a life full of joy and service. She was a loving mother to her late daughter, Cindral Dean Matheney, and was also preceded in death by her four siblings, Floyd Mackie, Lorene Mackie, Lloyd Mackie, and Edith Harris. She is survived by her adoring family, her son Joe Joe Matheney and wife Emily; grandsons, Justin and wife Kandace Matheney and Jarred and wife Sara Matheney; her great grandbabies, Maci Rae Matheney, Jovie Tyler Matheney and a great grandson due in June 2024. She is also survived by former daughter-in-law, Melanie Matheney.
With a work ethic as strong as her character, Johnnie Pearl dedicated over two decades of her life as a factory worker for Ultratech, Gould, and Porelon from 1969 until 1990. Her diligence and commitment were mirrored in her involvement with the Douglas Chapel Church, where she supported her husband's pastoral work with unwavering faith and love.
Johnnie's talents shone brightly through her music. A talented singer, she graced many with her voice as part of two quartets, the Pleasant Ridge Girls and the Matheney Family Quartet. Her music was a gift she generously shared, touching the hearts of all who had the pleasure of listening.
An avid sports enthusiast, Johnnie's passion for the Tennessee Volunteer football team was unmatched. She also fervently supported the Tennessee Titans and secretly the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Above all, Johnnie adored her grandsons and great-grand children. Her mischievous yet friendly nature made her the life of every family event, and her outgoing personality made her a friend to many. Johnnie was truly one of a kind, leaving behind memories that will be cherished and stories that will be told for generations.
Johnnie Pearl Matheney's life was special in every way. She was the epitome of friendliness, and her legacy will continue to inspire those who knew her. Her memory will be held in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her.
