Joyce Flatt

COOKEVILLE CHAPEL-Joyce Mullins Flatt, a cherished member of her community and beloved member of Salem Church, passed away peacefully on Thursday April 9, 2026, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center following complications from a stroke. Born on May 11, 1936, in Pickett County, Tennessee, Joyce lived a full and vibrant life, one marked by devotion to her faith, family, and the nurturing of those around her.

A graduate of Cookeville Central High School and a student at Tennessee Tech University, Joyce devoted over four decades of her life to public service at the Cookeville office of the former Department of Public Welfare for the state of Tennessee. Through her steadfast commitment, she touched countless lives with her kindness, professionalism, and unwavering dedication.

Joyce’s greatest pride was found in her membership and service at Salem Church in Cookeville, where she became a member on June 12, 1955. With 71 years as the longest tenured member, she lived her faith openly and courageously, embracing her church family with a heart full of love. Her spiritual dedication was matched only by her devotion to her own family and friends.

A woman of gentle strength and boundless compassion, Joyce had a profound love for gardening, growing beautiful flowers and plants that reflected the care she extended to all aspects of her life. Her affection for animals was unmistakable, and she found joy and comfort in caring for her beloved cats, Socks and Zoey, and her dog, Piper.

Joyce is survived by her great nieces and nephews, Leigh Robbins, Sonya Crouch Nash, Bruce Copeland, and Ken Crouch; numerous other nieces and nephews; and her sister-in-law, Opal Bohannon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bedford Mullins and Edna Shipley Mullins; her husband, Zollie "Harold" Flatt; her son, Stan Flatt; her sister, Crystelle Crouch; and her stepmother, Minnie Boyd Mullins.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 13, 2026 at 3:00 pm in the Salem Church. Interment will follow in Phillips Cemetery in Algood. Rev. Benton Flatt will officiate.
