COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Joyce South, a beloved member of the Livingston community, passed away on December 24, 2024, at the Overton County Health and Rehab in Livingston at the age of 80. Born on May 20, 1944, in Overton County, TN, she spent her life dedicated her family, her career, and her passions.

Joyce was a skilled businesswoman who co-founded Crestlawn Funeral Home in Byrdstown, TN, alongside her husband, Jim South. Together, they operated the funeral home for 18 years, serving their community with compassion and dedication. Her professional accomplishments were numerous, including her status as a Licensed Funeral Director. She continued working as an independent caregiver for seniors in her community. Joyce was an active member of several organizations, including the Eastern Star, the National Association of Daughters of American Revolution, First Families of Tennessee, the National Funeral Directors Association, and the Upper Cumberland Funeral Directors Association.

Joyce was one of many of the decedents of Stephen Copeland, who was one of the first settlers in Overton County.  Her educational journey began at Livingston Elementary and continued at Livingston Academy, where she fostered a love for her community that would last a lifetime. Joyce was not only devoted to her profession but was also known for her warm personality and commitment as a member of Walnut Grove Church of Christ in Livingston. Her steadfast faith and values were evident in her interactions with those around her.

Joyce's zest for life extended beyond her professional and community endeavors; she had a deep interest in genealogy and enjoyed painting. She was truly compassionate about the people of her community, leaving a positive mark on the lives she touched.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Katie Elizabeth Stubblefield, and spouse Eliza Solorzano of Long Beach, CA; her sister, Sue Eldridge of Livingston; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her family, she is remembered fondly by her feline child, "Rebel-ette."

She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis Alfred and Allie Gore Copeland, and her husband, Jim South.

Funeral Services for Joyce will be held at 3pm, Sunday, December 29th at Walnut Grove Church of Christ Church in Livingston with Danny Staggs officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1pm until the time of the service at the church.

Interment will take place at a later date in the Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Joyce South's legacy of kindness, commitment, and community service will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be greatly missed but fondly remembered.
