Joyce passed away peacefully on Friday August 21, 2026, in Cookeville, Tennessee. Born on November 5, 1930, in Madisonville, Tennessee, Joyce lived a long and fulfilling life distinguished by hard work, devotion to her family, and a spirited independence.
Joyce attended school in her hometown of Madisonville, laying the foundation for a life marked by both diligence and determination. She enjoyed a notable 28-year career at Red Cap Industries, where she skillfully applied her talent as a seamstress. Her reliable work ethic and attention to detail earned her the respect of colleagues and friends alike. In addition, Joyce worked as a cashier at Tennessee Tech University, where her approachable demeanor and steadfast nature endeared her to staff and patrons.
Outside of her professional life, Joyce was known for her deep appreciation of the outdoors. She found joy among flowers, relished opportunities to spend time outside, and took pleasure in shopping excursions. These passions reflected the vibrancy with which she approached both the simple and special moments of her life.
Joyce’s personality was well recognized by all fortunate to know her. She was, by all accounts, sweet-yet this sweetness was complemented by a dose of sass and feistiness. Joyce was known for her stubborn determination and staunch independence, always wanting things done her way. Her unique blend of traits made her an indomitable presence, dearly loved and respected by those close to her.
She is survived by her children, Gwen (John) Paul Bill (Missy) Sutton and Debbie (David) Harris. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren-Brad (Julie) Hughes, Micah (Thya) Harris, Kristie (David) Walker, Sarah (Josh) Walden, Rachel (Gavin) Anderson, and Andy (Pennie) Paul -as well as her beloved great-grandchildren Daniel, Addison, John, Jalie, Aden, Jessica, Lacie, Blake, Preston, Peyton, Lana, Kaitlyn, Preston, and Chace; and by her 16 great-great grandchildren.
Joyce was preceded in death by her father, Dewey McNabb; mother, Sarah Yates McNabb; sister, Mary Charles; brother, Eugene McNabb; daughter, Victoria "Vicky" Lynn Sutton Vaughn; and granddaughter, Lorrie Sutton.
