DYER CHAPEL - Juanita Harris, a cherished member of her community and a beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully on January18, 2025, in Miramar Beach, Florida at the age of 80. Born on May 26, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan, Juanita led a life enriched by love, family, and a variety of interests.
She attended the old Holladay School and built a successful career, retiring from Wilson Sporting Goods in Cookeville, Tennessee. Juanita was not just dedicated to her profession but also passionately engaged in numerous hobbies. She found joy in crossword puzzles and word searches, enjoyed sewing, and had a strong affinity for traveling. In her younger years, she relished being part of a bowling league and couldn’t resist the allure of dancing.
Juanita leaves behind a loving family who will forever treasure her memory. She is survived by her sons, Gary Harris and Bill Harris, Jr. of Cookeville; her daughters, Donna (Larry) Brown of Bloomington Springs and Rhonda Harris of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. Her sister, Barbara Wyatt of Detroit, Michigan, continues to carry forth their family legacy. Juanita was also a proud grandmother to her grandchildren, Nina (Daniel) Paul, Bryan (Madelyn) Harris, Megan (Rickey) Greer, Tiffany (Chris) Reed, Morgan (Connor) Martin, and Charles (Aubri) Harris. She delighted in the presence of her great-grandchildren, DJ, David, and Leeah Paul, Jorga Abel, Leland Greer, Aaden and Layne Harris, Jaxson McElvain, and Jaidon Reed.
Juanita was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents who raised her, Bettie and Otha Armstrong; her mother, Minnie Armstrong; and her husband, William Cecil Harris, Sr. These individuals profoundly shaped her life, and their memories remain etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Harris will be held at 1pm, Saturday, January 25th, 2025 from the Dyer Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Homes with Pastor Bob Sotis officiating. Interment will follow at Shipley Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11am until time of the service at the funeral home.
Juanita Harris will be remembered for her unwavering spirit, her love for her family, and the joy she brought to those around her. She leaves a legacy of warmth, compassion, and strength that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
