BAXTER CHAPEL-Judith Gail Stafford, age 84 of Baxter, Tennessee, passed away on Monday evening, June 9, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Judy was a bold and unforgettable presence in the lives of all who knew her, she lived life with unshakable honesty, fierce love and unwavering loyalty.
Born on January 5, 1941, in Jackson County, TN to the late Edgar and Vula Mae (Wilson) Sisco, Judy spent her life caring for her family, working alongside her husband, growing beautiful flowers, and feeding her family for Stafford Sunday Lunch.
On June 16, 1958, she married her handsome husband, James Harold Stafford. Together they built their family through life's challenges and triumphs, embodying strength, partnership and commitment for 66 years prior to Jim's passing in December 2024. They spent their days serving each other, their church, their family and neighbors. Jim and Judy enjoyed many miles of travel together through their years, but their favorite place was always home on their beloved Friendly Road.
Judy retired from Tennessee Tech University in 2004 after working 25+years in the school's post office. She came to meet and grow bonds with many coworkers and students throughout her years and still had a knack for remembering students' mailbox numbers.
She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ, having most recently been a member at the Buffalo Valley Church of Christ.
Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by sister-in-law, Barbara Stafford Flatt, and brothers-in-law, Kenny Ramsey, Mark Stafford, Richard Stafford, Bill Barham and Joe Flatt.
She is survived by her devoted sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Teresa Stafford and Tom and Kim Stafford, her beloved grandchildren, Stephen (Erica) Stafford, Evan (Ashley) Stafford, Annalee Stafford and Jared Stafford, her treasured great-grandchildren, Amelia, Mae, James and Lydia Stafford, sisters-in-law Jan Ramsey, Rachel Stafford and Wanda Stafford, and a host of loved nieces, nephews and dear cousins.
The family would like to extend our sincerest appreciation to James and Judy's recent caregivers, Linda Harness, Michelle Rodgers, and Melissa Kindervater with Visiting Angels and nurses from Tennessee Hospice who provided impeccable care during our final days with James and Judy.
Visitation with the family will be on Saturday, June 14, 2025, from 10 AM until 12 Noon with Funeral Services beginning at 12 Noon at the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home, 532 4th Avenue South, Baxter, TN.
