COOKEVILLE, TN- Julia Brownlee Todd, age 79, of Cookeville, Tennessee passed away peacefully at NHC of Cookeville on Wednesday January 14, 2026. She was born December 4, 1946 in Charlotte, North Carolina, the second child of John Bonner Brownlee and Mary Wylie Brownlee. She graduated from Erskine College in 1969 and married Charles Young Todd in July of that year. After teaching elementary school for three years while Charles was in seminary, she then modeled what an ideal pastor's wife should be as she served selflessly beside her husband for 43 years at Salem Presbyterian Church in Atoka, Tennessee. Julia had a sweet spirit and a kind servant's heart. She was a gracious hostess and an excellent cook, especially in baking things like cakes and coffee cakes. She dearly loved her husband and family and above all her blessed Savior the Lord Jesus Christ.
Julia is survived by her husband of 56 years, Charles; her two daughters, Mary Miles (Glenn) of Lyndhurst, New Jersey and Eleanor Bryan (Matt) of Nashville, Tennessee; a sister Kay Holley (Henry) of Aiken, South Carolina; a sister in law Barbara Brownlee of Memphis; seven grandchildren, Julia, Carmen, Bonner, and Mary Grace Bryan, Luke, Ruth, and Anna Miles; as well as cousins and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Bonner Brownlee, Jr.
As one who read Pilgrim's Progress to her fourth-grade classes for many years, Julia knew that she was a pilgrim and a stranger on this earth and that her real home was and is heaven. Thus by trusting only in Christ alone for her salvation, she has crossed the Jordan and all the trumpets have sounded for her on the other side.
The family would like to thank Julia's caregivers both at home and at NHC for their loving compassion and care during her final months.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Bonclarken, 500 Pine Drive, Flat Rock, North Carolina 28731.
