Graveside services and inurnment for Doris Kay Wiggins, age 79, of Monterey, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday February 19 at Whittaker Cemetery.
Kay passed away Saturday morning, December 31, 2022 at her home.
She was born May 24, 1943 in Cookeville to the late Curtis R. and Eva C. Huddleston Nichols. She graduated from Monterey High School in 1961 and married William "Bill" Wiggins III on June 13, 1964 in Monterey. After she and Bill moved to Nashville, Kay worked briefly at First Baptist Church in Nashville as Administrative Assistant. When they returned home, she began a career at the Bank of Monterey which spanned more than 45 years. Kay served in many community organizations, including the FCE Club, Monterey Civitan Club, and the Monterey Commerce Association. Her volunteer spirit led her to serve many years with the Red Cross in promoting and working with donor registration for blood drives in Monterey. After retirement, her entrepreneurial spirit and culinary skills led to Monterey favorites: BenAnna's restaurant and Asher's Spare Time Hobby and Bicycle Shop, lovingly named for her grandchildren. Kay was also a caterer, and a talented cake baker.
She was a long-time member of Monterey United Methodist Church where she voluntarily served in the Agape Preschool Program as their first Food Services Director.
Kay is survived by her husband of 58 years, Bill Wiggins, of Monterey; two sons, Ken (Kristen) Wiggins and Mike (Regina) Wiggins and grandchildren, Anna, Asher and Ben Wiggins all of Cookeville; and sister-in-law and special caregiver, Patsy King of Monterey.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Monterey United Methodist Church special fund to support local missions and outreach.
