COOKEVILLE-Lem L McSpadden, Jr. known fondly by all as Lem, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2024, at the age of 75 in Cookeville, TN. Born on August 2, 1948, in Athens, TN, Lem was a beacon of kindness and joy in the lives of those who knew him.


Lem was preceded in death by his loving parents, Lem McSpadden, Sr. and Juanita Coleman McSpadden, as well as his brother, John McSpadden. He leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication, embodied by his wife of 55 years, Donna McNew McSpadden, his son, Brian McSpadden, and daughter-in-law, Rana, of Pleasant Shade, TN.


A graduate of McMinn County High School, Lem's thirst for knowledge and commitment to education led him to Tennessee Tech University, where he graduated in the class of 1971. It was at Tennessee Tech that Lem met the love of his life, Donna, and together they walked the path of life, hand in hand. Lem remained a proud and active alumni, contributing as a longtime donor to the University that held a special place in his heart.


Lem's professional life was marked by a successful 30-year career as an engineer with Fleeguard/Cummins Filtration, where he excelled in various roles until his retirement in 2001. His dedication to his work did not end there; Lem became the post-retirement owner of Integrity Inspection and EnviroTenn, where he continued to garner numerous professional recognitions. His work ethic and integrity were an inspiration to his colleagues and peers.


An active supporter of Tennessee Tech University, Lem's generosity and involvement extended well beyond his professional life. He was a man of strong faith, actively participating in the Scott Avenue Baptist Church community. His faith was evident in his everyday actions, and he was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.


Those who knew Lem would describe him as the embodiment of kindness. His warm smile and cheerful demeanor were infectious, and he had the rare ability to uplift the spirits of anyone around him. He was a seemingly always happy person, spreading joy effortlessly and touching the lives of many with his compassionate nature.


Lem's interests and hobbies were a reflection of his character. He was deeply committed to his faith, his family, and his community. His unwavering support of educational initiatives and his passion for his work were paralleled only by his devotion to his loved ones.


A graveside service and interment will be held Monday, January 8th, 2024 at 2:00 pm (EST) at Roane Memorial Gardens in Rockwood, TN. His family will receive friends Sunday evening, January 7th from 4:00pm until 6:00pm (CST) at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home.
