DYER CHAPEL - Linda Gale Wittenberg, born on May 16, 1948, in Cookeville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Friday May 1, 2026, at her residence in Cookeville. She lived a life marked by resilience, love, and an unwavering spirit that touched the hearts of many.

Linda was known for her feisty, strong, and tough nature, qualities that defined her as a true fighter through all of life’s challenges. She complemented her strength with a great sense of humor, which endeared her to family and friends alike. One of the most cherished ways Linda expressed her love was through her cooking-a wonderful cook who showed affection and care by preparing meals for those she treasured.

Among Linda’s proudest accomplishments was her role as a foster mom. Over several years, she opened her heart and home to many children, providing them with care and support during pivotal times in their lives. This selfless dedication reflected her deep compassion and commitment to nurturing others.

Linda was born to Milton Austin, who preceded her in death, and Loretta Harness, her beloved mother who survives her. She was married to Daniel Wittenberg, her husband who also preceded her, and together they shared a life that enriched her soul. Linda’s family was her cornerstone, comprising her sons Craig Austin, Izaiah Wittenberg, Alex Wittenberg, Chris Arm, and Steven Barber; her daughters April Wheatley, Christina Arms, Neicy Wittenberg, and Danessa Keener; her brother Jeff Gunnels; and her sisters Donna Gurley, Sherry Lafever, and Cathy Barrington. She was also a cherished grandmother to numerous grandchildren and held a special place in the hearts of many nieces and nephews.

Linda experienced the sorrow of losing her grandson James "Jamie" Austin and great-grandson Ian Austin, who are fondly remembered as part of her family legacy.

A private family memorial service will be planned for a future date.

Through her life, Linda Wittenberg exemplified strength, warmth, and an unyielding love for her family and community. Her memory will continue to inspire those who knew her, serving as a testament to a remarkable woman whose spirit was as vibrant as it was enduring.
