BAXTER CHAPEL-Lloyd Ray Elrod, born on December 2, 1967, in Detroit, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Tristar Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 58. He was a valued member of the community and leaves behind a rich legacy through his work and family.
Lloyd dedicated his career to being a Heavy Equipment Operator with Rogers Group in Liberty, TN, where he was respected for his skills and commitment to the job. He was known for his strong work ethic and the pride he took in his profession.
Beyond his professional life, Lloyd had a profound passion for the outdoors, particularly fishing and hunting. These pursuits were not merely hobbies but were integral to his life, often providing opportunities to enjoy nature and spend time with loved ones. His greatest joy, however, came from his family. Lloyd loved his wife, Cynthia Cox Elrod, and cherished his role as a father and grandfather. He had a loving spirit and a generous heart, always extending kindness and support to those around him.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Cynthia Cox Elrod of Baxter; father, Lloyd (Diana) Elrod of Baxter; mother, Peggy Steele (Danny) Warden of Crossville; daughters, Kayla Stevens of Sparta and Keelie (Coty) Simmons of Sparta; stepson, Danny (Angie) Matthews of Rickman; stepdaughters, Miranda Cowan and Melisa Cowan, both of Cookeville, and Bethanie Cowan of Indiana; brother, Randy Elrod of Sparta; and sisters, Debra Mathis and Anika (Caleb) Goff of Baxter. He will be dearly missed by his 16 grandchildren, who were a significant source of joy in his life. Additionally, he leaves behind special friends Bobby McBroom and Andy Montgomery, who valued his friendship.
Visitation for Lloyd Ray Elrod will be at Baxter Chapel Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home located at 532 4th Ave South, Baxter, TN, on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and again on Friday, February 27, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A funeral service will follow starting at 12:00 Noon at the funeral home Pastor Steve Warren will officiate. Interment will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Andy Montgomery, Bobby McBroom, Coty Simmons, Matthew Papesh, Danny Matthews, Trent Scott, James Ferrill and Lee Myers.
Lloyd's warm spirit and unwavering love for his family will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege to know him.
