Lt. Randy Brown

DYER CHAPEL-Raymond Harvey "Randy" Brown, Jr., a devoted public servant and beloved member of his family, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 64. Born on September 28, 1961, in Cookeville, TN, Randy was a lifelong resident of the area, where he contributed significantly to his community through his work and relationships.

Randy dedicated three decades of his life to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, beginning his career on September 6, 1996, as a Corrections Deputy. His commitment to law enforcement was evident as he graduated from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy in 2003. That same year, he transitioned to the role of Patrol Deputy, where he continued to serve with honor. In 2014, Randy took on the important role of a School Resource Deputy at Prescott Middle School and then Burks Middle School, where he was instrumental in fostering a safe learning environment for students and staff alike. In 2023, due to age requirements, he returned to the Corrections Division, serving as a Lieutenant over Inmate Transportation, a position that illustrated his dedication to the safety and well-being of his community.

A proud graduate of the Putnam County Senior High School class of 1979, Randy was more than just a professional. He cherished his personal interests, which included playing cards, golfing, watching football and all sports, attending shooting matches, and enjoying cruises with loved ones. These hobbies showcased his zest for life and his ability to bring joy to those around him.

Randy’s family remember him as a loving husband to Kimberly "Kim" Smith Brown of Cookeville and a devoted father to daughter, Emma Herron of Rickman and stepdaughter, Taylor Sauceman of Nashville, along with stepson Jarrett (Amanda) Sauceman of Alabama. He will also be deeply missed by his sisters, Beverly Gentry of Cookeville, Pam Brown Roche of Rockwood, and Tammie Garrett of Cookeville. Additionally, Randy is survived by numerous nieces and nephews who brought him great pride and happiness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Harvey Brown Sr. and Velma Leigh Milliken Brown, as well as his daughter, Autumn Rhea Brown and nephew, John Riggs Gentry. Their memories will live on in the hearts of those who loved or were touched by Randy's kindness and unwavering spirit.

Randy Brown's legacy as a dedicated law enforcement officer and a caring family man will resonate throughout his community and the lives he impacted. His commitment to service and family is a testament to a life well-lived, and he will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A memorial service will be held at Washington Avenue Baptist Church at a later date. The date and time will be updated here when arrangements are finalized.
