COOKEVILLE CHAPELL - Lucille Bilbrey Polson Alred, age 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday June 21, 2025, at the Livingston Regional Medical Center. Born on July 9, 1943, in Jackson County, Tennessee, Lucille was known for her kindness, generosity, and dedication to her family and community.
Lucille enjoyed a commendable career that spanned over 30 years at Red Kap, where her strong work ethic shone through. In a remarkable continuation of her dedication to service, she joined her beloved husband, Keith Alred, at Appliance Mart in Cookeville, working alongside him for an additional 28 years. Her contributions to the family business were immeasurable, and she was deeply respected by her colleagues and customers alike.
Her warm personality and beautiful smile endeared her to many, making her a beloved figure in her community. Lucille was a member of the Baptist faith and a former member of Chapter 152 of the Order of the Eastern Star, reflecting her commitment to both her faith and service to others.
She leaves behind her daughter, Sandy Swenson (Chad), and her cherished grandchildren, Thomas Moore and Sara Moore. In addition to her immediate family, Lucille is survived by siblings Thurman Bilbrey (Paulette), Grady Bilbrey (Beulah), Jean Bryant, and Anna Pearl Smith; sister-in-laws Barbara Bilbrey, Pam Ford, Wilma Polson and Aileen Alred; brother-in-law Richard Morris. She also leaves behind step-children Dana Plant (David) and Kelly Goolsby (Mark). Step-grandchildren Justin Plant, Abby Menzies (James), Hannah Ledbetter (Lucas) and step-great-grandchildren Hudson Ledbetter, James Campbell Menzies and Hayden Ledbetter.
Lucille was predeceased by her parents, Cordell Bilbrey and Lula Avo Langford Bilbrey; her first husband, Johnny Polson; her second husband, Keith Alred; a brother, Raymond Joe Bilbrey; and brothers-in-law Edwin Lee Smith, Louis Bryant, David Polson, and Carl Bilbrey, Lenell Maxwell, Oral Alred, Carl Alred and Charles Pickett. She was also preceded in death by sisters-in-law Wanda Maxwell, Josephine Morris and Jann Pickett. Lucille cherished her many nephews, nieces and friends.
A funeral service honoring Lucille will be at 11 a.m. Thursday June 26 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Pastor Danny Hembree will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 - 8 p.m. and again Thursday from 9 a.m. until service time. Lucille will be laid to rest at Crest Lawn Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Scott Bilbrey, Barry Bilbrey, Lewis Bryant, Michael Smith, Brandon Smith and Brandon Shirley.
