BAXTER CHAPEL-Mable Carter Maddux, age 102 of Baxter, TN, a cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 2, 2026, in Cookeville, TN. She was born on October 25, 1923, in Granville, TN, and she lived a life dedicated to education, faith, and family.

Mable devoted 31 years to teaching within the Jackson County and Putnam County school systems, leaving a lasting impact on countless students over her career. Her commitment to education was matched by her own academic journey, as she was a proud graduate of Baxter Seminary and earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Tennessee Polytechnic University, now Tennessee Tech University.

From a young age, Mable exhibited a deep and abiding faith, becoming a member of the Church of Christ at the age of 15. She continued to nurture her spiritual life throughout the years and was a dedicated member of the Baxter Church of Christ since 1950. Mable found great joy in reading her Bible and took delight in sending greeting cards to her brothers and sisters in Christ, sharing her warmth and kindness with those around her.

Mable was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Robert Ray Carter and Eva Estline Wheeler Carter; her husband, Noble Hooper Stout, who passed away in 1988; her son, Noble Hooper Stout Jr.; her sister, Anna Lee Carter Young; and her brother, Farmer Dycus Carter.

She leaves behind a loving family, including her daughter-in-law, Pat Stout of Cookeville; her grandsons, Bo (Jennifer) Stout of Cookeville and Brandon (Alie) Stout of Verona, KY; and her great-grandchildren, Tylan Stout, Tatyn Stout, Banks Carter Stout, and Boone Charles Stout. Mable is also survived by her step-grandchildren, Theresa Marie Kira and Alex Kira of San Francisco, and Michael (Erin) Carpinto of Kent, Washington, great nieces, Kathy Pippin and Jamie Young.

Mable's life was a testament to her faith, dedication to education, and love for her family. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Baxter Church of Christ, located at 224 Buffalo Valley Road, Baxter, TN 38544. The funeral service will follow at the same location starting at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery. Bro. John Pippin will officiate.
