Margaret Buckner

Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Buckner, age 89 of the Poplar Grove community of Putnam County, will be held Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at 7:00 pm in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Dr. Jason Groe will officiate.

Her family will receive friends from 4pm until service time at the funeral home.

Interment will be held Wednesday, February 22nd at 10am at Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Buckner died Sunday February 19, 2023 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

She was born October 6, 1933 in Putnam County to the late Wilburn and Ida Jackson Dixon.

Margaret was employed at Model Laundry and Plateau Mental Health Center. She and her late husband owned and operated Eastwood Market in Cookeville from 1977 until their retirement in 1991.

She loved her church, Poplar Grove Baptist Church, where she attended her entire life. She and Howard enjoyed cruising, Tennessee Vols football, snowbirding in Florida and, later in life, all things Tom Brady. She was an avid reader. She also loved her family and enjoyed sharing her love and stories of them with others.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 55 years, William '"Howard" Buckner; daughter, Cheryl Buckner; and by a grandson, Jeremy Buckner. She was also preceded in death by father and mother in law, Modell and Eunetta Buckner and sisters in law, Robbie (Glen) Jones and Barbara (Bill) Milton.

Mrs. Buckner is survived by sons Gary (Sharon) Buckner and Larry (Carol) Buckner, of Cookeville; grandchildren, Sheree (Andrew) Ishee, Geniece (Brent) Brunson, Ashley (David) Sims, Zach (Bethany) Buckner and Kyle Buckner; great grandchildren, Audrey and Gracie Ishee, Braelyn and Beckham Brunson, Anna Kate and Levi Sims, Bella, Bessie, Betty, Zayne and Bennie Buckner; sister in law, Judy Kirby; nieces and nephews, Sharon (Kelly) Byers, Steve (Penny) Milton, Theresa (Chuck) Karam, and Sheila Doebler

Zach Buckner, Kyle Buckner, Andrew Ishee, Brent Brunson, David Sims, Eddie McDonald, and Greg Hodge will serve as pallbearers. Zayne Buckner, Levi Sims and Beckham Brunson will serve as honorary pallbearers.
