Maria Diedrich

December 9, 1947 — July 25, 2024

DYER CHAPEL-Maria Diedrich, a cherished mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2024, in Cookeville, Tennessee. Born on December 9, 1947, in Erbach, Germany, Maria lived a life marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith.

Maria's birth in Germany set the foundation for a life of resilience and joy. Maria met and married the love of her life, Alfred A. Diedrich, and they shared a beautiful journey together for 53 years until his passing on December 21, 2021. Together, they created a family and a legacy of love that will continue to live on.

Maria was a devoted mother to her children, Janette (Marc) Bernstein of New Port Richey, FL, Alfred R. (Tanya) Diedrich of Temple, GA, Dawn Poligkeit (Nick Smith) of Cookeville, Peter J. (Akane) Diedrich of Brooklyn, NY, Wendy (Ben) Baker of Cookeville. She was a guiding light in their lives, always there with a listening ear and a comforting hug. Her love extended to her grandchildren, Jessica Bernstein, Kevin Bernstein, Desiree (Joe) Merrell, Austin (Lexii) Diedrich, Remy Diedrich, Natasha Price, Clayton (Ivie) Price, Paul (Samantha) Poligkeit, Brian Poligkeit, William (Makenna) Poligkeit, Gregory Poligkeit, Hunter Smith, Skyler (Alexis) Baker, Eli Baker, Allison Baker; great grandchildren, Atticus, Marlow, and Leilani, each of whom brought immense joy to her life.

Maria's siblings, Johanna (Jerry) Pastore, Ruthie (Jim) Olson, and Kristofer (Mary Ellen) Stark, will remember her as a loving and supportive sister. Her family was her pride and joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Ray (Diane) Diedrich of Cookeville. Maria was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Frederick Gustav and Maria Vockel Stark, her husband, Alfred, and her son-in-law, Paul Alexander Poligkeit III.

Her faith was a cornerstone of her existence. As a member of Jehovah's Witnesses of the Cookeville congregation, Maria's spiritual journey was filled with learning, teaching, and living by the principles of her faith. She found solace and strength in studying and reading her Bible, which guided her through life's challenges and triumphs.

Maria's nurturing spirit extended beyond her family as she served her community as a dedicated nurse at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Her colleagues and patients will remember her for her kindness, empathy, and the gentle care she provided. Maria's ability to comfort and heal was a gift to all who knew her.

In her free time, Maria enjoyed simple pleasures. She was often found with a book in hand, lost in the pages of her Bible or other enriching literature. Her home was a haven where family and friends were always welcome, and where Maria was often referred to as "the best mom ever." The memories created during these gatherings will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to be part of them.

Maria's legacy is one of love, service, and faith. Her impact on the lives she touched is immeasurable, and her memory will be held dear in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Her spirit, characterized by generosity and kindness, will continue to inspire and guide her family and friends.

Maria’s wishes of cremation with no services are being honored.

As we say goodbye to Maria, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a soul that has undoubtedly left an indelible mark on this world. Her journey on earth may have concluded, but her story will continue to be told through the lives of those she loved. Maria Diedrich will be deeply missed, yet her spirit will remain with us, guiding us with the same love and wisdom she shared so freely during her time among us.
