Marie Qualls

August 11, 1933 — April 1, 2024

Johnnie Marie Poston Qualls, born in Overton County, Tennessee on August 11, 1933 became a resident of Heaven on April 1, 2024 at the age of 90.


She was preceded in death by her husband Lynon Coyd Qualls following their 46 years of marriage, her parents Lee and Virgie Poston, and nine of her eleven siblings.


Her surviving sibling is Betty Stone of Murfreesboro, TN. Also surviving are her six children Mike (Trish) Qualls, Debbie (David) Pierce, Cindy Polk, Cathy (Rick) Reel, Vicky Walraven, and Judy (Barry) Bates. She had four grandchildren Chris (Jenny) Qualls, John (Paige) Reel, Tara Polk, and Michael William (Morgin) Walraven. She also had three great grandchildren Calleigh Asher, William Reel, and Rowan Walraven.


Love of family and sports were Marie's greatest passions. She wholeheartedly supported her six children, four grandchildren and great grandchild as they participated in sports from little league to high school. She was instrumental and an original organizer of the Algood Women's Softball League. She played and coached women's softball well into her 60's. She also loved following the career of Aaron Rogers and was a long-time Green Bay Packer Fan. She loved all sports NFL, NBA, NCAA, MLB, and all women's sports. She knew a lot of NFL players and teams by name. She was a long-time employee of Wilson Sporting Goods and enjoyed staying in touch with her co-workers.


Marie was known for her love of country music. She had a long list of favorite stars, attended countless concerts, and loved dancing to her favorite country songs. Marie was a giving and caring and sassy! individual who will be missed by all who knew her and loved her.


Services will be held at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home, April 5, 2024 at 3:00 pm with Pastor Eddie Turner officiating. Interment will follow in the Algood City Cemetery, Algood, Tennessee.


Friends will be received at Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home, Cookeville, Tennessee Thursday, April 4, 2024, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm & Friday, April 5, 2024, 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm.
