Cookeville Chapel – Funeral services for Mr. Mark Timothy Adams, age 59, will be held Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at The River Community Church. Interment will follow at Cookeville City Cemetery. Pastor Steve Tiebout will officiate.
The family will receive friends Saturday, October 10, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at The River Community Church.
Mark Timothy Adams was born March 26, 1967, in Knoxville, Tennessee, and passed away October 1, 2026, at Alive Hospice in Nashville, after a three-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He faced that fight the way he faced everything: with courage, quiet strength, and unshakable faith.
Mark was a 1985 graduate of West High School in Knoxville and earned his bachelor's degree from Tennessee Tech University in 1992. He built a long and faithful career of 31 and a half years at Averitt Express as a logistics dispatch manager, where his dedication, steadiness, and work ethic were lasting marks of the man he was.
Mark's faith was the foundation of his life. In his own words, "I'm not a Believer, I am a Knower." He didn't just hope in the Lord; he was certain of Him, and that certainty carried him through every season, including the hardest one.
He was an active member of The River Community Church, where he had the privilege of serving as a deacon. He was proud to be a brother of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, and those friendships lasted a lifetime. He was an avid golfer and a loyal fan of the Tennessee Volunteers.
Above all, Mark's life was rooted in the people he loved. For 33 years he was a devoted husband to Connie Shultz Adams, and their marriage was the steady center of his world. He loved her deeply, and the family and home they built was his greatest joy. He was a proud and loving father to his daughters, Adelyne (Peyton) Mitchell and Laykelin (Jackson) Shelnutt, and nothing lit him up like his perfect granddaughter, Markie Lynn Mitchell. He is also survived by his sister, Gale Hicks, and his brother, Kenny Hicks. He loved his in-laws, Joe Shultz and Fred and Robin Shultz with all his heart. He was blessed to have a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins who stayed connected through all the seasons, who showed up for each other and loved one another so very well.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lemuel Adams and Arlina Weaver Adams.
Mark will be remembered for his faith, his devotion to family, his loyalty in work and friendship, and the courage with which he lived to the very end. His life leaves a lasting blessing in the hearts of all who loved him.
Paul Sanders, Jim Cannon, Ish Bagci, George Seagrave, Andy Turner, Tracy Cross, Nate Maxwell, Hobie Dunn, Doug Jones, Dwayne Archer, and Todd Long will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Pam Ramsey, Daniel Blankenship, Steve Fisher, Dwight "Pa" Fox, and his SAE fraternity brothers.
