COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Mark Kalal Jr., born on May 7, 1994, in Agana, Guam, passed away on Monday October 27, 2025, at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, after bravely battling leukemia. He leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and creativity that will always be cherished by those who knew him.
Mark was a devoted son, deeply loved by his parents, Mark Kalal Sr. and Amelia Gamotea Kalal; and his grandfather, Robert Kalal. His spirit was shaped by the values instilled in him by his family-values reflected in his giving nature and his willingness to assist with cooking and chores around the home.
An accomplished individual, he graduated from Cookeville High School in 2012 and went on to earn his degree in Psychology from Tennessee Tech University in 2016. His time at the university and his subsequent career in the library illuminated his thirst for knowledge and the joy he found in helping others. Mark's passions included gaming, a field in which he not only found joy but also left his mark. He enjoyed testing new games and even designed some himself, showcasing his creativity and dedication to the craft. His enthusiasm for gaming often brought him closer to new friends and opportunities, fostering connections that he greatly valued.
He is preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Teodora and Marcelino Gamotea, and Diane Kalal. Their memories continue to live on in the hearts of those who remain.
Mark's funeral service will be held on Saturday November 1 at 1p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home followed by a visitation from 2 - 5p.m.
Mark Kalal will be remembered as a bright light in the lives of many-a compassionate soul whose impact will resonate in the communities he touched, especially through his love for family and the art of gaming. His presence will be missed dearly, but his memory will forever be celebrated.
