Mark Stephen Webb, passed away peacefully at his residence in Cookeville, on September 7, 2024, at the age of 72. Born on July 4, 1952, in Putnam County, Mark was a man whose presence was felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, great-grandfather, and a loyal brother, whose memory will be treasured forever.
Mark is survived by his adoring wife of 30 years, Kathy Webb, whom he married on July 9, 1994. Together, they built a life full of love and laughter. He was a guiding light to his sons, Mark Webb and Steven Leffew (wife Angela), and daughters, Angela Kane and Crystal Cartwright (husband John). Mark's siblings, Richard Webb (wife, Mary), Marilyn Hunter (husband, Harold), and Diane Carlile (husband, Johnny), will remember him as a brother who was always there for them. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Seth Leffew, Megan Darty, McKenzie Webb, Kaylynn Webb, Dakota Roberts, Dylan Payant, and Devon Payant (wife, Marissa), and his great-grandchild, Adonis Darty, all of whom he loved deeply.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Joe Lee Webb and Lucille Burris Webb, who instilled in him the values of compassion and service that he carried throughout his life.
For 40 years, Mark served his community in law enforcement. He served 37 years with the Cookeville Police Department retiring as a Lieutenant. Later he served three dedicated years with the Putnam County Sheriff's Department before having to retire due to his health. His commitment to public safety and his unwavering integrity made him a respected figure in the community and among his colleagues.
Mark was an active member of Dodson Branch Baptist Church, where his faith and fellowship with the congregation were a source of great comfort and joy. He was a selfless and giving person who never met a stranger. His ability to engage in conversation and connect with people was unparalleled, and his sweet and funny nature brought smiles to many faces.
Those who knew Mark would describe him as loving and kind. He was a man who put others before himself and made a lasting impact on the lives he touched. His sense of humor, his generous spirit, and his unwavering support for his family and friends will be dearly missed.
A funeral service with police honors will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, September 10, at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. The service will celebrate Mark's life and honor his memory. Pastor David Sharp and Dr. Harold Hunter will officiate. Interment will follow at West Chapel Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest. Visitation will take place on Monday from 5-8 pm and on Tuesday from 10-11 am, allowing family, friends, and community members to pay their respects and share their fond memories of Mark.
