Martha Whitehead, born on August 7, 1933, in Hoffman, NC, gracefully passed away on Tuesday October 21, 2025, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center, leaving behind a legacy filled with love, laughter, and warmth. Martha lived a full life, marked by over 40 dedicated years in the automobile industry with General Plating. Her work ethic and commitment to her career were evident, but they were only a part of who she was.
Martha was a beacon of joy; her happy, pleasant demeanor and caring spirit endeared her to everyone who crossed her path. Even as her health declined over the years, she maintained her infectious laugh and sweet nature, reminding us all of the beauty of resilience in the face of adversity. She moved to Putnam County as a teenager and earned her high school diploma, paving the way for a life rich in experiences and relationships that would define her. She and her late husband moved to Detroit, MI in 1951, and she remained there until his death in 2003.
She is lovingly remembered by several nieces and nephews, among whom her caretakers, Janette and Don Gentry and Donald and Margie Jones, stood out, providing her with unwavering support and care during her final years. Sheila Doebler, held a special place in Martha's heart, being like the daughter she never had.
Martha was predeceased by her beloved husband of 50 years, JB Whitehead, whose presence in her life filled her days with love and companionship. She also leaves behind the memory of her devoted parents, Newell Steven Hutchings and Emma Muriel Seago, alongside her dear sisters, Marie (Robert) Casey and Patricia Ann (Robert) Jones, all of whom have shaped her life in profound ways.
The family expresses a heartfelt thank you to the dedicated staff at Charter Assisted Living, where Martha resided for 15 wonderful years, as well as those at Signature Healthcare, who provided her with extraordinary care during her time of need.
Memorial contributions are suggested to be made to the Chestnut Mound Baptist Church Cemetery fund .
