Funeral services for Mary Goolsby Guinn Pierce, age 100 of Cookeville, TN will be held Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Dyer Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Cemetery in Cookeville. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday May 3, 2013 and again on Saturday from 10:00 until time of service. Mary Pierce died April 30, 2013 at NHC Healthcare of Cookeville. She was born March 6, 1913 to the late Alvin and Selina Goolsby. She moved to Detroit, Michgian in 1934 and lived there approximately 56 years before moving back to Cookeville. Mrs. Pierce’s family includes: two sisters Jewell Herron of Baxter, TN, Liloene Styers of Lantana, TX and one brother Joe Goolsby (Mary Ann) of Cookeville; one stepbdaughter Peggy Medrow of Virginia; six nieces Joyce Anderson and June Garrett of Baxter TN, Pam Goolsby of Cookeville TN, Tami Crowe of Texas, Tanya Traeger of Minnesota and Debroah Caraballo of Georgia; five nephews Randall Goolsby of Cookeville, Jackie Herron of Indiana, Mike and Reggie Goolsby of Ohio and Kevin Bowen of Michigan. In addition to her parents she was preceeded in death by her husband Chesley Guinn and husband Harold Pierce; sister Inez Bowen Thomas, two brothers Jasper Goolsby and Charlie Goolsby. Mary was a member of Willow Avenue Church of Christ. She was a supporter of various missionary programs and provided funds to build two church buildings in Haiti. She also supported an orphanage in Haiti. Mary worked for Bendix Co. in Detroit Michigan for 35 years. She dedicated her 100 years to caring for the poor and needy. Bro. Steve Reeder and Dale Garrett will officiate the services. A Special thanks to NHC and staff for the great care provided during her residency there.
