COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Mary Eileen Lucy Mackey, born on December 2, 1929, in London, UK, passed away peacefully on Friday February 27, 2026, at the age of 96 in Cookeville, TN.
She was raised in London during World War II and spent several years in northern England as a child evacuee. Upon return, she studied hotel management and then went on to nursing school. From there she became a flight attendant and was quickly promoted to “Queen Bee” at British Overseas Airways Corporation. During that time, she met the love of her life, Edward Mackey. He was an attorney with an oil company, requiring him to make multiple overseas flights. After discovering their mutual deep love for the Lord, they married, and she moved to New Jersey to begin her new life. After raising her two children she went back to school to earn her master's degree in education, then served as an educator and nurse in an elementary school. While there, she impacted the lives of many families and children.
She and Ed retired to Jupiter, FL, where they continued to enjoy each other's company until Ed’s death. She then began to split her time between Jupiter and Cookeville, TN, where her daughter Mary could care for her to the end. During her life, wherever she lived, she was a steadfast evangelist, influencing the lives of countless people.
She is survived by her children Edward Scudder Mackey, III (Susan) and Mary Edwina LeFave (Christopher), and her grandchildren Edward (Mac) Scudder Mackey, IV, Hannah Elizabeth Mackey, Samuel Christopher LeFave, and Amanda Marie Gray (Michael).
A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 4, at 11:00 AM at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. She will be interred next to her husband in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may made in her name to Wounded Warriors Project, or Samaritan's Purse.
Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. (931)526-6111 Share condolences and memories at www.hhhfunerals.com.
