COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Mary Phillips Wester, age 93 of Cookeville, passed away on Tuesday June 16, 2026, at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville. Born on June 6, 1933, in Livingston, Tennessee, Mary lived a life marked by joy, laughter, and connection to those around her until her untimely passing due to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
Mary was a woman who loved to have fun; she was known by friends and family alike as the life of the party. Her personality, rich in humor and kindness, made her a beloved companion. She was a jokester, a social butterfly, and one who brightened the days of many with her infectious enthusiasm.
Mary had a love for community and fellowship that was evident in her active participation at the McClellan Avenue Church of Christ. She treasured outings with her church family, embracing those moments of camaraderie and spiritual fellowship. Her leisure time was joyfully spent shopping and engaging in a variety of activities at the Cookeville Senior Activity Center, where she remained an energetic and lively presence.
Mary formerly worked at Red Kap in Cookeville and later worked at Wilson's Sporting Goods where she remained until her retirement.
She is survived by her devoted daughters, Terry Long, Felecia Roberts, Jackie Shockley, Karen English alongside her husband Richard, and Dawn Hollins alongside her husband George, who carry forward her legacy of warmth and familial love. Also left to cherish her memory are numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Elizabeth Roberts; her husband, Charlie King Sr.; her sons, Phillip Roberts and Charlie King Wester Jr.; her granddaughter, Nakia Irwin; and great grandson, Zion Wester; and her siblings, Howard Roberts, Dewitt Roberts, Ann Roberts, Callie Western, Opal Howard, Carrie Roberts, and Jean Strode. Their memories uphold Mary’s life story, a narrative interwoven with love, family, and community ties.
A funeral service to honor Mary will be Friday June 26 beginning at 1 p.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Bro David Meeks will officiate. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Cemetery. Visitation for friends and family will be Friday from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Mary Wester’s passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew her. Her enduring spirit, playful nature, and unwavering companionship have left a lasting impression on her community and family, ensuring that she will be remembered with great respect and affection for generations to come.
