DYER CHAPEL-Melvin Robert Mashburn, 97 of Cookeville was born on March 21, 1929, in Gadsden, Alabama, and passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Grandview Post Acute in Cookeville. A respected member of Praise Cathedral, Melvin lived a life marked by devotion, dedication, and joy found in simple pleasures.
Melvin's enduring love for the outdoors was evident in his many hobbies. He trained horses with a gentle hand and experienced the tranquility of fishing and hunting, activities that allowed him to cultivate patience and appreciate the natural world around him. These passions were a reflection of his steady and nurturing spirit.
He is lovingly remembered by his son, Carl Mashburn, and wife Carrie, his daughters, Latricia McNeely and her husband Keith, along with Belinda Holman and her husband Dallas Ray Holman, all of Cookeville, honor his memory in their daily lives. Melvin's influence extended to his grandchildren—Shane Lafever, Sabrina Holman, Rachel Swoar and her husband Charlie, Titus Holman and his wife Laura, Justin Mashburn and his wife Katie, and Megan Long and her husband Collin, and his great-grandchildren Katie Holman, Corbin Swoar, Rowan Swoar, Levi Holman, Colter Long, Avie James Mashburn, and Knoxleigh Bell Mashburn.
Melvin was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Melvin McKinley Mashburn and Emma Elizabeth Creekmore Mashburn, whose values and love shaped the man he became. He was also preceded by his devoted wife, Aleen Hill Mashburn, who passed away on October 10, 2016; and several brothers and sisters.
Throughout his 97 years, Melvin embodied the virtues of faith, family, and fellowship. His legacy endures in the hearts of those who knew him and will continue to inspire all who remember him. His presence was a blessing, and his memory remains a cherished treasure to be held close by all who loved him.
A graveside service and interment will be held Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 10 AM in West Cemetery, 795 John West Rd, Cookeville, TN with Pastor Eric Vickers officiating. Visitation will follow the service at the cemetery.
