BAXTER CHAPEL-Michael Allen "Hammer" James, born on November 19, 1967, in Smithville, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Highpoint Health-Sumner with Ascension St. Thomas in Gallatin, Tennessee. He was a dedicated farmer whose life was characterized by hard work and a profound connection to the land he cultivated.
Michael had a multifaceted life filled with various interests and hobbies. He was passionate about woodworking, horse and cattle sales, and raised chickens. He enjoyed cutting wood and logging, all while finding time to indulge in fishing, a pastime that brought him peace and joy.
He leaves behind a loving family, including his father, Freddie Ray James of Bloomington Springs; stepson, Jeffrey Seifert; and his siblings: Ray (Marian) James of Chestnut Mound, Karen (William) Clark of Bloomington Springs, Sharon (Don) Mahaffey of Algood, Sara (Ray) Medley of Double Springs, Reada Hodges of Crossville, and Sandy Kay Baker of Livingston. Michael shared a special bond with his girlfriend, Felicia Ann Walker, along with her children: Nicholas Carter, Leon Tyler Carter, Kenzie Lykins, Ava Carter, Lakeland Lykins, and Jayden Boren. Additionally, he is remembered by his step-granddaughter, Kaylee Walters, and his cherished nephew, Steven Bryant, and niece, Brooklynn Brown.
Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Joyce Cronk James, and his wife, Pamela Ann Vinson James. Their memories continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Visitation services will be held at Baxter Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home located at 532 4th Ave. South, Baxter, TN, 38544, on Friday, July 25, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and again on Saturday, July 26, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A funeral service will follow on the same day at 11:00 AM with Bro. Tony Crow officiating. Interment will follow in Maynard Cemetery in the Cherry Hill community in DeKalb County, TN. Friends and family are invited to come together to celebrate the life of Michael Allen James, sharing memories and honoring his legacy.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
