Michael David Tripp passed away suddenly at St. Thomas Highlands Hospital on Monday September 21, 2026, at the age of 55. Born on July 1, 1971 in Woodruff, SC, Michael will be remembered as a hardworking, loving man and a devoted dad whose steady presence meant so much to those who knew him.
Michael's working career was twofold, he formerly worked as an EMT in Charleston, SC and volunteer firefighter in Fountain Inn, SC. Later, after moving to Cookeville, he worked as an HVAC tech with the Hiller company. In both fields his services reflected the character that defined him: dependable, caring, and committed to helping others.
Outside of work, Michael found enjoyment in carpentry and fishing. Whether building with his hands or spending time on the water, he appreciated the simple satisfactions of honest work and quiet moments. Michael was a devoted fan of the South Carolina Gamecocks, finding immense joy in cheering for his favorite teams through every season. Those closest to him knew him as someone whose love for his family was central to who he was.
Michael was a faithful Christian and a member of Cookeville Church of Christ. His faith and church family remained an important part of his life.
He is survived by his son, David Tripp, and his daughter, Kate Tripp. He is also survived by his brothers, Dean Tripp and his wife Lori, and Kenny Tripp and his wife Tammy; his sister, Lisa Hartnett and her husband Regis; his brother-in-law, John Wolfert and his wife Melissa, ten nieces and nephews and one great niece. They, along with many others whose lives he touched through family, friendship, work, and service, will carry his memory forward with love.
Michael was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Tripp, and by his parents, Charles and Mary Ellen Tripp.
A memorial service honoring Michael will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home (59 N Jefferson Ave). Bro. Don Blackwell will officiate. Visitation for friends and family will be Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions in Michael's memory may be made to Cookeville Church of Christ.
Michael's life was marked by faith, service, love, and devotion to his family. He will be deeply missed and warmly remembered.
