COOKEVILLE CHAPEL-Funeral services for Mr. Myron Keith Smith, age 67, lifelong resident of Cookeville, will be held Friday, May 16th at 1:00 p.m. at Bangham Heights Baptist Church. Dr. Jeremy Byrd will officiate. Interment will follow at West Cemetery in the Fairview community of Putnam County.
His family will receive friends Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home, and again Friday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the church.
A beloved husband, father, and friend, Myron passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, with his family by his side. Born in Cookeville, TN, on August 9, 1957, Myron led a life rich in love and dedication, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege to know him.
Myron's career as an electrician began at Smith Electric. He spent many years contributing his skills and hard work at Charles Stone Heating & Cooling, where he was known for his reliability and dedication. Myron’s commitment to his profession mirrored his devotion to his family and community; he was always willing to lend a helping hand and share a laugh with anyone in need.
A graduate of Putnam Senior High School in 1975, Myron distinguished himself on the football field and later pursued his passion for electrical engineering at Tennessee Tech University. In all aspects of his life, Myron exemplified kindness, care, and an unwavering willingness to help others, embodying the best qualities of a husband and father.
For 43 wonderful years, Myron cherished his partnership with his wife, Sandy Murphy Smith. Together, they nurtured a loving household, raising their son, William Smith, of Knoxville, TN, and their daughter, Marcy Flatt, of Cookeville. Myron also leaves behind his brother, Kevin Smith of Old Lyme, Connecticut, sister in laws Marsha Ford and husband Patrick, Brenda Holland and husband Brent, Pam Hoskins, brother in law Jimmy Murphy, nieces and nephews Resasha Van Deven and husband Adam, Kayla and Keyle Holland, Jake Hoskins, Katie Jones and husband Blake, great nephews Brayden, Braxton and Bryson Van Deven, Eli Jones along with several cousins, extended family members, and a wealth of friends whose lives he touched deeply.
Myron was preceded in death by his father and mother Hulon and Wilma Smith and father in law and mother in law James and Doris Murphy.
Myron was a committed member of Bangham Heights Baptist Church for the past 50 years, where he joyfully taught Sunday school and fostered a sense of community among his fellow members. He had an infectious love for children; they were drawn to his warm spirit and playful nature. His early years were spent attending Caney Fork Baptist Church, where his foundation in faith was firmly established.
In addition to his spiritual commitments, Myron was an avid outdoorsman, finding joy in hunting and fishing. He loved exploring nature’s beauty, often sharing those experiences with family and friends, deepening their bonds while teaching them to appreciate the world around them.
Memorial contributions are suggested to be made to the Backpack Program at Bangham Heights Baptist Church, 5961 Hilham Rd, Cookeville, TN 38501 and/or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Tim Sharp, Steve Sharp, Stan Sharp, Patrick Ford, Jake Hoskins and William Smith will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Murphy and Joel Moss.
