Nancy Jane Thompson

COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Nancy Jane Thompson, affectionately known as Janie, passed away peacefully at her residence in Cookeville, Tennessee, on Saturday August 9, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on February 12, 1954, in Cookeville, she spent her life cherishing the relationships she cultivated and the family she adored.

Janie dedicated over 31 years of her professional life to Cummins Filtration (Fleetguard), where she served in human resources. Following her time there, she continued her career at Oreck for three years and ultimately retired from the Putnam County School Board after a fulfilling 12-year tenure. Throughout her career, she was known for her unwavering dedication and commitment to her work, traits that mirrored her nurturing and loving personality.

Outside of her work, Janie was a devoted member of the Sycamore Church of Christ, where she found a sense of community and joy in her faith. Her passions included caring for her beloved puppies as well as cultivating the rich bonds she shared with family and friends. Known for her gentle and generous nature, Janie was also an ambitious woman who faced life’s challenges with a smile and a bit of silliness, leaving a warm impression on everyone she met.

Janie embodied a lighthearted spirit and a nurturing demeanor, traits that endeared her to many. Her family meant the world to her, and she took immense pride in her role as "Mimi", to her granddaughters, Madyson Ford (Jakob) and Layah Rich, who were the apples of her eye.

She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Randy Thompson, and her children, daughter Emily Rich and son Jon Thompson. Janie is also survived by her siblings Nell Bartlett (Perry), Charles Cobb (Phyllis), Ronnie Cobb (Patsy), and Linda (Gary) Nash, along with her cherished granddaughters.

Janie was preceded in death by her parents, Carnell Cobb and Maryanne Burgess Cobb, and her siblings, Betty Ealey, Patty Taylor, Jimmy Cobb, and Joanna Allen.

A celebration of life in Janie's honor will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday August 12 at Sycamore Church of Christ. Visitation for friends and family will be Monday evening 5 -7 p.m. at the church and again Tuesday from 10 - 11 a.m.

Nancy Jane Thompson's presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her, and her memory will forever echo in the hearts of her beloved family.

The Family would like to express gratitude to Drs. Abramson and Brothers with Vanderbilt Breast Center for their care and guidance over the last 9 years.
