Peggy Dilldine Gunter, 83, went to be with the Lord Oct. 26, 2020, in Birmingham, Alabama. During her lifetime, she was a loving daughter, sister, mother and grandmother, and her friends and family will remember her as a smart, generous Christian woman who faced life’s challenges with grace, dignity and unassailable character. She was predeceased by her parents William O. Dilldine and Gladys Martin Maddux, of Putnam County; her sister Billy Sue Dilldine Press and brother Donald William Dilldine, of Warren, Michigan; her son Bobby Ray Gunter, of Birmingham; granddaughter Vallie Rae Hardaman, grandson Dakota James Gunter and great-granddaughter Kaylee Rae Rhoads. She is survived by her uncle, Melvin J. Martin of Cookeville; sister Faye Lee (Bob) Cathers of Sterling Heights, Michigan; son William Eugene Gunter, daughter Linda Faye Gunter and granddaughter Sarah Jane Hardaman, all of Birmingham, Alabama; granddaughter Katie Gaines (Cedric) and great-grandchildren Kimberly and Kaleel, of Columbia, Missouri; and many cousins, nieces and nephews she loved dearly. Peggy lived the first 10 years of her life in Putnam County before moving to Warren, Michigan, where she met and married the late W. Eugene Gunter. They moved to his native Alabama and raised three children. She retired from the Unisys Corporation in the early ’90s as a senior systems analyst; she spent her later years caring for family and friends and becoming quite the expert amateur genealogist. She is the granddaughter of Samuel H. and Vallie (Carr) Martin and William Jesse Dilldine and Elvira Lafever, of Putnam County and the great-grandaughter of James W. and Celia (Elrod) Martin, Elijah J. and Sarah (Mahan) Carr, Thomas W. and Nancy (Parsley) Dilldine and Asher and Canzada (Elrod) LaFever, all of Putnam County. Graveside services and interment be 11 a.m. Oct. 29 in Allison Cemetery in Putnam County, Tennessee. Friends are invited to pay their respects and sign the guest book 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the Dyer Funeral Home. Due to COVID-19 precautions, social distancing measures will be observed.
