Peggy Lou Apple Mackie, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2023, at the Signature Health Care Center in Cookeville. Born on December 6, 1937, in Jackson County, TN, Peggy lived a life filled with love, kindness, and devotion to her family.
Peggy was a devoted mother to her four daughters, Melinda (David) Anderson of Cookeville, Jennifer Kossman of San Diego, CA, Emily (Alan) Brown of Gainesboro, and Susanne (Ron) Lee of Franklin, TN. She was a cherished grandmother to her nine grandchildren, Nicole Anderson (fiance, Justin Cook), Michael Anderson, Jacob Kossman, Zachary Kossman, and Benjamin Kossman, Matthew Brown, Sara Brown, Sophia Lee, and Jonathan Lee.
Peggy was a loving sister to her brothers, Ted Apple of Antioch, TN, Ray (Jeri) Apple of Lexington, KY, and Jimmie (Lisa) Apple of Gainesboro. She was a beloved aunt to her nephew, Tim (Theresa) Barlow, and great niece and nephew, Joel and Sara Beth Barlow. She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Daris Ragland Apple; her husband of 47 years, John Leroy Mackie; sister, Patty Jo Barlow; and niece, Lucinda Barlow.
Throughout her life, Peggy was a dedicated homemaker who took great joy in caring for her family. She was a member of the Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ, where she served faithfully and found great comfort and community.
Peggy had a passion for gardening, reading, and sewing, hobbies that brought her great joy and satisfaction. She was an exceptional cook, often preparing meals for her family that were filled with love and care. Her influence in the kitchen was profound, inspiring her daughters to embrace the art of cooking and carry on her culinary legacy.
Funeral services honoring Peggy will be at 1 p.m. Saturday September 16 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Bro. Mike Fox will officiate. Interment will follow at Cookeville City Cemetery. Her family will receive friends Saturday from 11 a.m. until service time.
Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Anderson, Matthew Brown, Jonathan Lee, Jacob Kossman, Zachary Kossman, and John Apple.
