COOKEVILLE CHAPEL-Penny Christine Katro McHenry, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, entered into His rest on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville, Tennessee at the age of 59. Born on March 18, 1966, in Joliet, Illinois, Penny brought joy and warmth to all who knew her. She was affectionately known as "Honey" to her many grandchildren.
Penny was a devoted member of Life Church, where she worked in bookkeeping and actively participated in various ministries, including Bible Studies and Women’s Ministries. She was known for her steadfast faith and for championing the faith of those around her.
She attended Tullahoma High School and earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology at Tennessee Tech University, embodying a lifelong passion for the word of God and the care of His church. Her legacy of faith will continue to live on in her children and grandchildren.
Family was at the heart of Penny's life. She is survived by her husband, David James McHenry, of Cookeville, and her children: sons Zacharie (Elizabeth) McHenry of Sparta, Christian (Jessica) McHenry of Crossville, and Isaiah McHenry of Cookeville; daughters Lauren (TJ) Timmerman of Memphis and Brandi (Eli) Payne of Livingston; her mother, Patricia "Pat" Tuck Katro. Penny's devotion to her family extended to her five grandchildren—Ruby McHenry, Micah McHenry, Eleanor McHenry, Evelyn Payne, and Charlie Payne—and she was eagerly anticipating the arrival of her grandson, Owen McHenry.
She is also survived by her brother, Donny (Shenelle) Katro of Manchester, Tennessee, who cherished their bond.
Penny is preceded in death by her father, Donovan Katro, as well as her grandson, Arthur Ronen Timmerman, and her brother, Kris Katro. Their memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her.
Penny's legacy of love, faith, and dedication to her family and community will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. A visitation and funeral service will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, at the Life Church - Edge Facility located at 2223 North Washington Avenue, Cookeville, TN. The visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 1:00 PM. Pastor Bobby Davis will officiate. Burial will follow in the McHenry Family Cemetery, 2507 Jess Rodgers Rd. Bloomington Springs, TN. Friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate Penny's remarkable life and the indelible impact she made on those around her.
