COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Preston Parker Waites, age 87, of Cookeville went to be with our Lord on Monday August 17, 2026 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born in Cookeville on July 16, 1939 to Herman and Margie Waites (Stockton). Preston was raised in Cookeville and remained here where he met his wife Margret Sullivan. They got married October 24, 1959. They have been married for 66 years. They had two children. Preston worked in the monument business for 50+ years. One of Preston's hobbys was watching Nascar race and enjoyed going to watch his son race. His favorite time of the year was the holidays when the whole family gathered together.
Besides his parents, Preston was predeceased by his two brothers and one of his sisters and their spouses: James (Mary) Waites, Grady (Jean) Waites and Patty (Tommy) O'Neill.
Preston is survived by his loving wife Margret Waites (Sullivan), his two children Teresa (Rick) Southerland and Robert Waites and his girlfriend Sherrie Allen Shellenbarger; his sister Linnie Dale Loftis; his five grandchildren Timothy (Holly) Stockton, Trenda Norris, Amanda (Brian) Doyle, Nikki Waites and boyfriend Christopher Reed and Shayna Shellenbarger; twelve great grandchildren Jonathan Stockton, Nathan Stockton, Ashalee Stockton, James Stockton, Gage (Kyleigh) Norris, Bently Norris, Hunter Ellis, Billy Page, Allen Reed, Ozzy Reed and Amilia Southerland; one great great grandchild Ezra Norris. Preston had a host of cousins, nieces and nephews that he loved very much.
Funeral services for Preston will be at 1:00 pm Thursday August 20, 2026 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home (59 N Jefferson Ave, Cookeville) with Rev. Tommy Harris officiating. Interment will follow in the Cookeville City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 11:00 am until time of service.
