Rasma Ekmanis

COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Rasma Tirums Ekmanis, age 91 of Cookeville, passed away Tuesday September 15, 2026, at her home.

Born May 19, 1935 in Ogre, Latvia, Rasma emigrated to the United States in 1945 as a war refugee after spending much of her youth in displaced persons camps during World War II. She earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Arizona State University, went on to teach high school special education in Phoenix, AZ and moved to Cookeville after retiring.

She is survived by her two brothers; Andrew Theodore Tirums and his wife, Lynn and John Tirums and his wife, Barbara, as well as her sister Inara Erdei. She is also survived by four loving daughters and a son, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her father, Teodors Tirums, and her mother Anna Zarins Tirums.

No formal services are planned.
