Raymond Gonzalez, born on May 7, 1948, in Puerto Rico, peacefully passed away on June 5, 2026, at his residence. His journey from his birthplace to the United States at the age of three marked the beginning of a life rich in dedication, love, and service. A proud graduate of Holy Trinity High School in Chicago, Raymond built a life rooted in hard work and heartfelt connections.
Raymond was a devoted husband to Geraldine Dela Garza Gonzalez, to whom he was married for 53 loving years. Together, they nurtured a family filled with warmth and joy. He is survived by his cherished daughters, Sheila (Jerry) Bliujus of Silver Point, Tennessee, and Tina (Joe) Progar of New Smyrna Beach, Florida. His grandchildren-Isabella (Andrew) Benson, Kirby (Savannah) Bliujus, Jacob, Lucas, Gabriel Bliujus, and Joey Progar-were the light of his life. His playful, happy, and jolly spirit shone brightest when he was with them, always silly and full of love. Additionally, nieces and nephews Tonya, John, Vanessa, and Annette carry forward his memory and kindness.
Raymond’s legacy is also marked by the loving memories of those who preceded him in death: his parents Manuel and Evelyn Centeno Gonzalez, his sister Diane Rodriquez, and his niece Lisa Rodriguez.
Raymond's commitment extended beyond his family. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served honorably during the Vietnam War-a testament to his dedication and courage. His career was distinguished by his work in maintenance for McDonald's Corporation in Illinois and later at Lowe's, where his skills as a talented handyman shone through daily.
Beyond work, Raymond’s passions breathed life into his days. He found solace and joy in gardening, cooking delicious meals, bird watching, and capturing precious moments with his camera. His love for food and nature was matched only by the joy he found in spending time surrounded by family, preserving memories through photography.
