COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Captain Robert Lee Kirkham, 89, of Silver Point, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 26th, 2026, at his farm. He was the beloved husband of Lillian W Kirkham (Denning). He was born in Hamilton Township, NJ, on September 17, 1936, and was the son of the late Cathrine Kirkham (Lenius) and John Kirkham. He served as an Army Medic in the NJ National Guard until 1965. He was a Life Member of the Rusling Hose Fire Company and Rusling Hose Rescue Squad. He joined the Trenton Police Department in 1965 and rose through the ranks to become a police Captain. He served as a past Vice President of the local Police Benevolent Association and later Vice President of the Superior Officers Association. He was honored as the City of Trenton's Employee of the Year (1993) and served 28 years with the department, retiring in 1994. He lived a life dedicated to others as a devoted public servant, respected leader, and loving family man.
He was the proud father of Scott Kirkham (Nicole) and David L Kirkham (Katherine), grandfather of Collin, Adam, Katielyn, Emily, Wyatt, and Zachary Kirkham, brother of the late Jacklyn Kerlin (Kirkham), Donald Kirkham (Barbra Ann), Marion Kish, Elizabeth Doyle (John), Robert Denning (Ann), uncle to the late William Kerlin, Douglass Kerlin, Katherine Kerlin, Mark Kerlin, and Joseph Kish, uncle to Michael Kerlin (Lorraine), Richard Kerlin (Dorothy), Lisa Offredo (Jeff), Gregory Kirkham, Christy Kirkham, Julie Kirkham, Kathleen McManamon (John), Isabell Raymond (Sam), Margret Warren, and Pauleen Merluse (Ciprian), and many great nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, March 4th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Interment with military honors will follow at Maynard Cemetery in the Cherry Hill community of Dekalb County. Visitation will be held Wednesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home (59 N Jefferson Ave., Cookeville).
