Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Aline Gaw, 88 of Cookeville, will be held at 1 pm Sunday, November 23, at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home with Richard Bond and Jackie Farris officiating. Interment will follow at the Shipley Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5 – 7 pm and again Sunday from 12 noon until service time at the funeral home. Mrs. Gaw died Thursday morning, November 20, 2014 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born June 5, 1926 in Putnam County, TN to the late Albert and Phebia Scarbrough Braddom. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oakley B. Gaw; and brother, Bill Braddom. Mrs. Gaw was a member of Cookeville Freewill Baptist Church. She and her husband owned Factory Outlet Shoes on Cedar Street in Cookeville for a number of years. She also was a baker for more than 35 years and enjoyed making cakes for special occasions. She loved tending her flower garden and had a special knack for growing violets. Gifted with a generous heart, she provided the means for countless children to attend church camp. Her friends and family enjoyed her hospitality, and she loved to cook for people she knew, including her mailman, farm workers, and many others. . She is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Brenda Winton of Livingston, TN, Jenny and Bill Ray of Cookeville; three grandchildren, Kelly and husband, Phillip Hooks, Kevin and wife, Pam McBroom, Stephanie and husband, John Nelson; six great-grandchildren, Brandon and Kristen Hooks, Andrew and Isaac McBroom, Kingston and Winston Nelson; special grandchildren, Rita Snelling, Robin Trousdale, and Shayne Harris; and her sister-in-law, Estelle Braddom of Cookeville. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
