Sam Do, age 88, of Cookeville, TN passed away peacefully on October 7, 2023, at his daughter’s home in MD where he had lived for the past two years under the care of his daughters.
Sam was born on April 6, 1935, in Quang Tri, Vietnam to parents, Do Thi Nguyen and Giang Do. He served in the South Vietnamese army and following the Vietnam War immigrated to the US in 1975 with his wife and children accompanied by his youngest brother and mother as refugees. With the sponsorship of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, he and his family relocated to Cookeville where he lived for the latter half of his life.
Sam worked at the factory Fleetguard primarily on an assembly line for car filters starting in 1976 until his retirement in 2005. Along with being the sole provider for his family, he enjoyed planting vegetables and gardening in his yard, a source of pride and joy, during his active years.
Sam was predeceased by his wife, Suu Thi Le, and is survived by his eight children: Nguyet, Anh, Hoang, Tuy, Hung, Ha, Dung, and Jennifer along with his oldest brother Father Peter Do Quang Chau and youngest brother Diep Van Do, both Cookeville residents. Mourning his loss, the family is grateful to have had his love and guidance through the years. His sacrifice and devotion to family will always be an inspiration to his children. Friends will always remember Sam’s infectious smile as he greeted them with a firm handshake.
