COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Samantha Dawn Goolsby, affectionately known as Sam or “Sammy G” to those who cherished her, passed away on Wednesday March 25, 2026, in her hometown of Cookeville. Born on July 13, 1983, Samantha’s life was full of laughter, love, and unwavering loyalty to those around her. Her spirit was loud, energetic, and funny-qualities that made her both unforgettable and deeply beloved by everyone who knew her.
From the very beginning, Samantha’s roots were firmly planted in Cookeville. Raised in the Cookeville Church of God, her faith and community shaped much of who she was. Later in life, she found a second home in The Bend Church, a place where her love for her church family blossomed. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, illuminating her path with compassion and grace.
Professionally, Samantha dedicated many years to International Specialty Supply (ISS) in Cookeville. Through her work there, she became more than just a colleague; she became a beloved member of a wider family, one where her energy and care resonated strongly. Many dear friends from ISS remember her not only for her dedication but also for her ability to bring humor and warmth to every interaction.
To her mother, Kathy Goolsby, Samantha was a treasured daughter whose love and closeness will remain a constant source of comfort despite the profound loss. She was an incredibly proud mother to her beloved children, Samuel McCarty and Jessie McCarty II; her greatest joy in life was loving and raising her boys, and they were at the very heart of her world.
Samantha’s bond with her siblings was full of shared memories and unbreakable ties. Jessica McQuillin (Brad), Glynn Goolsby (Patience), and Sharron Walden (Terry) carry forward her legacy of care and humor. She was also deeply connected to her extended family-aunts and uncles Brenda Maddox (Don), Karen Mashburn (Carl), Bob Nelson (Connie), Tom Nelson (Faye), Donna Moss (Jeff), and Freddie Nelson (Kathy) all held a special place in her life. Her cousins-Justin Mashburn (Katie), Renea Welch, Megan Long (Colin), Steven Nelson, Chad Maddox (Chelsea), Tonya Nelson, Nikki Smith, and Jamie Sims (Chad)-along with nieces and nephews Madison, Kolton, Mayson, Jackson, Easton, McKenzie, and Kylie, each held a piece of her heart.
Samantha’s circle of friends was vast and vibrant. Danielle Sommerer (Marcus) and many others at ISS were touched by her kindness and infectious spirit. Teresa Nichols, known as Mama T, was a motherly figure to Samantha, providing love and guidance that she cherished deeply.
Behind Samantha’s lively presence was a foundation built by those who came before her. She was preceded in death by her father, Earl “Glynn” Goolsby, and her grandparents Ardene and Irene Nelson as well as Alford and Minnie Mae “Cricket” Goolsby. Their memory lived on in the strength and warmth that Samantha shared so openly with everyone around her.
Samantha Goolsby was a force of nature-loud in laughter, energetic in spirit, funny beyond measure, and caring to the very core. You could always count on her, and everyone loved her for it. Her legacy is a testament not only to the love she gave freely but to the joy she brought to every life she touched. As Cookeville and all who knew her mourn her passing, they also celebrate the remarkable life she led-a life rich with love, faith, family, and friendship that will forever resonate in the hearts of those left behind.
A funeral service will be held Friday, April 3rd at 1:00 p.m. at The Bend Church. Pastor Shane Warren will officiate and interment will follow at Smith Chapel Cemetery. Her family will receive friends Thursday evening, April 2nd from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and again Friday from 11:00 a.m. until service time, all at The Bend Church.
