Samuel Lasater

Funeral services for Mr. Samuel Houston Lasater Jr., age 85, of Cookeville, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday September 14th in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will follow in Double Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Lasater passed away peacefully Thursday September 12th at his home . He was born June 11, 1934, in Marion County, TN, to the late Samuel Houston Sr. and Sally Harris Lasater. His fondest memories of his youth were hunting on the family farm and being captain of his high school football team. After graduating high school, Mr. Lasater served stateside in the United States Army during the Korean War, stationed in San Francisco, California, and was a member of his company's baseball team. He attended Tennessee Polytechnic Institute (TTU) on the G.I. Bill and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering in 1961. He met and subsequently married the love of his life, Reba, March 17, 1966. He was retired from US Army Corps of Engineers with over 32 years of service where he played an integral role in the startup of many of the hydroelectric power dams in Tennessee and Kentucky . He loved country music, was an avid sports fan and antique car enthusiast. He is survived by two sons, Dr. Michael (Stephenie) Pippin, and Sam (Barbara) Lasater; two daughters, Susanne (Timothy) Morton and Sally (John) Depriest. In later life, his greatest joy were his nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Bertie Francis Hale.
