COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Scott Douglas Burton, a devoted family man, a hardworking professional, and a cherished member of his community, passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday April 27, 2026. Born on January 31, 1965, in Cookeville, Tennessee, Scott’s journey was marked by steadfast dedication-to his family, his faith, and his country.
A 1983 graduate of Cookeville High School, Scott carried the values instilled in him throughout his life. He proudly served in the United States Army and the National Guard, honors that underscored his commitment to service and sacrifice. His professional life was characterized by diligence and perseverance; for the past twelve years, he worked as a service manager at Goodyear in Nashville. Even as he bravely battled cancer for several years, Scott’s strong work ethic shone through, continuing to work until recent weeks.
Scott’s character was as rich as the life he lived. A loving husband to his wife, Linda Faye Burton, and a proud father to three daughters and their families-Summer and Ryan Summers with their children Noah, Jaren, and Hayden; Carla and Curtis Davison; and Taylor and Jacob Swan. He reveled in the joy and fullness of family. He is also survived by his sister, Debbie Hawn; his brother, Stacy Burton and wife Dorinda; nieces Lydia and Lexi Burton; as well as a bonus daughter, Lisa Crawford, and her children Maximus and Lucas Sites; and a bonus son, Brent Crawford and wife Hailey, and their son Koen Crawford. The legacy of love continues through all these cherished relationships.
Scott held a lifelong affiliation with the Algood Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he had been a member since the young age of 11. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding his easygoing nature and deep sense of compassion. Known for his lighthearted spirit as much as for his strong principles, Scott was a jokester who lifted the spirits of those around him and a God-fearing man whose quiet strength comforted many.
He found joy in simple pleasures-road trips that stirred his adventurous heart, woodworking that honed his patience and skill, peaceful afternoons spent fishing, revitalizing naps, and above all, helping others. His willingness to lend a hand was one of his proudest accomplishments, matched only by the love he bore for his family.
One of the touching ways Scott connected with loved ones was his heartfelt tradition of wishing family and friends a happy birthday each year, sometimes singing the greeting by phone or voicemail. These moments captured his tenderness and enduring presence in the lives of those he held dear.
Scott was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Carl D. Burton and Elaine Copeland Burton, whose memory lives on through him and the family he so deeply cherished.
Services to honor and celebrate Scott’s life will be held on Saturday May 2, 2026, at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Military honors will be rendered by the Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will follow at Algood City Cemetery.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. (931)526-6111. Share memories and condolences at www.hhhfunerals.com.
