COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Matthew Edward “Steve” Michewicz, born March 25, 1960, in Hialeah, Florida, passed away peacefully at his home in Cookeville, Tennessee, on Sunday February 8, 2026. A cherished husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend, Steve’s remarkable ability to love unconditionally will forever resonate with all who knew and loved him.

Steve was a proud graduate of Zephyrhills High School in Zephyrhills, Florida. Before retiring, his career spanned many trades, but his most cherished work was alongside his brothers in the construction industry. With skill and creativity, Steve had an ability to use whatever tools and resources were available to provide for his family.

A man of many talents and passions, Steve found joy in hobbies that reflected his creative spirit. He was an avid gardener, a devoted collector of memorabilia, an exceptional cook, and loved all types of music. He took great pride in his intellect and possessed a natural gift for wordsmithing, often expressing his thoughts through writing. Growing up in Florida, Steve developed a love for the ocean and lakes, spending time with his children and grandchildren camping, fishing, and swimming whenever he had the chance. An animal lover at heart, Steve’s compassion for all living creatures made him a trusted companion to many animals throughout his lifetime.

Steve was also a devoted foster parent who opened his home to many children over the years, providing safety, stability, and love to any child who entered his home. He remained in contact with each of these children throughout his life, believing deeply that guiding and supporting children was his life’s purpose.

Steve leaves behind his beloved wife, Audrey Williams Michewicz, with whom he shared nearly 39 years of marriage following their wedding in 1987. He is also survived by his son, Max Michewicz; his daughters, Amanda (Derek) Allen and Ivy Griffin; and his treasured grandchildren, Nicholas Matthew Edward Stacey, Dillon Gauge Walker, and Logan Sappington. His grandchildren were the joy of his life and will carry forward the legacy of his love, humor, and spirit.

He is also lovingly remembered by his brother, John Michewicz, and his sister, Tina Griffin, who shared cherished moments as they grew up together. Steve was a devoted uncle to several nieces and nephews, each of whom will deeply miss his steady presence and his open-door policy, no matter the circumstance.

Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Dorene Cunard; his son, Zachary Drummond; and his brother, Ronnie Michewicz. While these losses weighed heavily on his heart, he honored them by speaking of them often and holding their memories dear.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

As we reflect on the life of Matthew Edward “Steve” Michewicz, we celebrate a man defined by humor, resilience, quiet wisdom, and unwavering love. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were blessed to know him.
